Updated

Little Often is built so that your records stay with you. This page explains in plain words what the app keeps, where it keeps it, and what happens when you visit the site. It covers Little Often on the web, at littleoften.app, and the iPhone app.

In short

  • No account is needed: we don’t ask for your name, your email or anything else about you.
  • Your records and settings are kept on your device: in your browser or in the iPhone app. We can’t see them.
  • No ads, no cookies, and no scripts or trackers from other companies.
  • The app sends nothing anywhere: your browser only loads the site’s own pages, and the iPhone app doesn’t go online at all.
  • We don’t sell data and don’t share it with advertisers.

What stays on your device

The app keeps the following in your browser’s storage on this device:

  • Your records: the amount and time of each drink
  • Your settings: daily goal, units, quick add buttons, reminder schedule, and how the app looks — theme, font, text size and spacing
  • A few notes the app keeps for itself, such as when the next reminder is due
  • A copy of the site’s pages, so the app works offline

None of this is ever sent to us or to anyone else. The site sets no cookies. Reminders on a computer are shown by your browser, with your permission, straight from this device — no server is involved.

Records older than 10 years are deleted automatically, and if your browser’s storage fills up sooner, the oldest records are deleted first. You can remove any of today’s records in the app, or delete everything at once by clearing this site’s data in your browser. We have no copy, so unless you have exported a file, deleted records can’t be restored.

Export to a file

When you choose “Export to file” in Settings, the app puts your records and settings into a file, and your browser saves it where you choose. The file is not encrypted. What happens to it next is up to you: if you keep it in a cloud service or send it by email, that service’s rules apply. “Import from file” reads the file right on your device and sends nothing anywhere.

Hosting

The site is hosted by GitHub (GitHub, Inc., USA). As with any website, when your browser loads the pages, the host sees your IP address and basic technical details, such as the browser type and the time of the request. GitHub logs visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes; we have no access to these logs.

GitHub may process this data outside your country, including in the United States; it is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. GitHub Privacy Statement

The site loads no scripts, fonts or images from other companies. Links to other websites, such as the sources in our article, lead to sites with their own privacy policies.

The iPhone app

Little Often for iPhone works the same way: no account, and everything stays on the device. The app keeps the following right on your iPhone:

  • Your records: the amount and time of each drink
  • Your settings: daily goal, units, quick add buttons, reminder schedule, and how the app looks — font, text size and spacing
  • A few notes the app keeps for itself, such as when the next reminder is due

None of this is ever sent to us or to anyone else: the app doesn’t go online, and it contains no analytics, ads or trackers. Reminders are shown by iOS, with your permission, straight from the iPhone — no server is involved. This is the only permission the app asks for, and you can withdraw it at any time in “Settings → Notifications → Little Often”.

“Export to file” puts your records and settings into a file and saves it where you choose: on the iPhone or in a cloud service such as iCloud Drive, whose rules then apply. The file is not encrypted. “Import from file” reads the file right on the iPhone. Links to the site in the app’s settings open it in your browser, where the “Hosting” section applies.

The app keeps your records with no time limit. You can delete any of today’s records in the app, and deleting the app removes everything it has stored. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes the app’s data, as it does for other apps, and restoring it brings the data back. We have no copy, so deleted records can be restored only from a file you exported or from such a backup.

App Store

The app is distributed through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles downloads and updates under its own privacy policy and doesn’t tell us who installs the app: we see only overall figures, such as the number of downloads per country. Apple Privacy Policy

If you have allowed your iPhone to share analytics with app developers, Apple also sends us crash reports and statistics on how the app is used, in a form that doesn’t identify you. You can change this at any time in “Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements”.

When you write to us

If you write to contact@littleoften.app, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use them only to answer you and keep the correspondence only as long as the conversation needs it. If you ask, we’ll delete it.

Mail to this address is forwarded to our mailbox by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA), which is also certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Cloudflare Privacy Policy

Your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR give you the right to access your personal data, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, and to get a copy of it. With Little Often, your records are entirely in your hands: they live only on your device, where you can view, export and delete them at any time.

Apart from the emails you send us, we hold nothing that identifies you. For those emails, and for any question about this policy, write to contact@littleoften.app. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Changes to this policy

When something changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If Little Often ever starts sending any data from your device, we’ll describe it here before that happens.
